Asphalt driving seems quite easy when one watches it on TV or from the grandstands. But, it is wrong to underestimate asphalt driving.
A good asphalt driver is not the one who needs more seat time or the one who depends on skills achieved as a legacy by some different inheritance of chromosome.
An ideal asphalt driver adopts a more consistent and a rather smooth driving style while learning how to pass and defend a position. The less the driver turns the steering wheel, the better it is for him.
However, this is not the case in dirt track racing.
Though the dirt track racers also strive for smoothness, they ensure that they contend with the car at all kinds of attitudes along their way. This requires a lot of steering input while the posterior tells the driver where to steer and how far!
However, at high speed and at a 45-degree angle to the direction of travel, it is indeed quite difficult to run a few inches off your competitor’s door.
The most common driving style involves steering first to the left and then right, and then left again coming up off the corner.
Bear in mind that the driver’s hands can get crossed up and he or she can loose the sense of where the wheels are straight-ahead if the car gets too far around at mid-turn.
Dirt track racing does involve plenty of risk factors but despite the complexities of dirt track racing, lots of teams and fans love to compete and watch this sport.
No doubt, unlike asphalt racing, dirt racing represents over 60 percent of the short track circle track racing in America.
